Gayle Hardie — Emotional Health, the 3 Centres of Intelligence, and the Enneagram Framework

What if real self-awareness isn't just about thinking more clearly, but learning to listen to your body and your heart with the same rigour?

About Gayle Hardie

Gayle Hardie is a leadership expert and co-founder of the Global Leadership Foundation, an organisation that has spent over 30 years developing emotionally healthy leaders across the world. Her work centres on the Enneagram, a framework for understanding how personality patterns form and how they can become more flexible, alongside mindfulness and emotional intelligence practices. She is also the creator of the Mastering Emotional Health app.

About this episode

In this conversation, Jess and Gayle explore what emotional health actually means in practice. Gayle introduces the idea that we each have three centres of intelligence, head, heart, and gut, and that most of us lean heavily on one, creating blind spots in how we understand ourselves and relate to others.

They also dig into how the Enneagram works, not as a fixed personality type that boxes you in, but as a lens for understanding the patterns you developed early in life and how those patterns play out in your relationships, your work, and your sense of self.

In this episode:

  • What emotional health really means, and how it shapes every decision we make

  • The three centres of intelligence, head, heart, and gut, and how to use all three

  • How the Enneagram works as a tool for self-awareness rather than a fixed identity

  • Why personality patterns form as early protection strategies

  • Practical ways to build emotional awareness in daily life

  • What intentional leadership looks like from the inside out

Prompt for reflection:

"How do I want to be today?"

This is an anchoring question that you can explore through your journaling practise or in conversation with someone else. A few moments spent with a question can unlock a new perception.
